Why “Folk”?
Folk means people. The word reminds us that healing happens within community, not alone. The Folk Collective is about people coming together: counsellors, wellness practitioners, yoga specialists, and physicians who share a commitment to care, collaboration, and ethical practice.

What is Folk Collective?
Folk Collective is a community of professionals who support one another to work with care, integrity, and respect. Each person brings their own area of practice, and together we share knowledge, encourage reflection, and uphold one another to high standards. Our aim is to ensure that the people we serve receive thoughtful, grounded, and compassionate care from practitioners who are supported by a trusted community.

What We Stand For…

Cultural Safety, Humility, and Inclusivity

We are committed to learning about and responding to the histories and lived experiences of the people we serve. This includes recognizing the ongoing impacts of colonialism and walking respectfully alongside Indigenous peoples and communities.

We also acknowledge that racism, sexism, ableism, transphobia, and other forms of systemic oppression continue to shape people’s access to care. Our collective works to support safety and belonging for Black, Indigenous, racialized, 2SLGBTQ+, and other marginalized communities. We understand that identities intersect and that genuine inclusion requires curiosity, humility, and reflection.

Members of Folk Collective engage in ongoing education, consultation, and peer learning to strengthen our anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and gender-affirming practices. Solidarity for us means standing with communities, listening, learning, and being accountable for how we act within those relationships.

Relational and Responsible Practice

We honour the trust placed in us by the people who come for support. Doing this work is deeply meaningful, and we believe that care grows stronger when it is held within community. Members of the Folk Collective stay connected through shared learning, reflection, and collaboration so that we can continue to offer thoughtful, sustainable, and ethical care.

We work together to share resources, ideas, and tools that help our work stay practical and clear. Rather than creating new systems for the sake of change, we build on approaches that are already working. This helps our collective remain responsive and grounded in real-world practice.

Collaboration and Connection

Folk Collective exists because we believe that connection and collaboration lead to better care. When practitioners are supported by a community that values ethics, respect, and continual learning, they can offer services that are more consistent and trustworthy. For clients, this means your counsellor or practitioner is part of a network that shares the same commitment to respect, safety, and integrity. For community partners, it means we can offer clear pathways for collaboration and referrals when that is helpful.

Why this matters to Clients and Community Partners

Confidentiality is a core value for everyone in Folk Collective. Our shared learning spaces focus on reflection, growth, and ethical practice, not on client information. We listen, learn, and grow together while staying true to our values of care, humility, and relationship. Folk Collective is rooted in people supporting people, a simple idea that helps us all do better work together.
